Final Day of NaNoWriMo

Been writing all weekend ’til my fingers started to fray, and I’m finishing NaNoWriMo with 60,815 words. Woohoo!!! When I validated the word count on the official site, it came to 61,034 words though. Fine with me, too. Got my winner’s certificate, and the winner’s t-shirt is on order.

My novel Seed Keeper is more than halfway done. I got as far as Chapter 8 and know already that it won’t be as long as Sophie and the Magic Flower, but that’s okay. Now we’ll see if I can complete it by December 31st.

Happy Thanksgiving

A Wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving to all

Thanks to everyone who has shown support for my journey of 50,000 words and beyond.

Today’s word count is 2,166.

Enjoy the day and eat lots of good food. I will. It’s snowing again and just the perfect day to enjoy a good book or movie, if I’m not too full and sleepy after dinner.

NaNoWriMo Day 23

Did an even 1,800 words today. Seven days left and a bit more than 1,000 words.

The deeper I get into the story, the more great ideas are bubbling up. Although I feel like I’m running out of steam (especially at 4:45 am when that alarm goes off), I’m also getting more immersed and entangled. There are moments when I think I’ll be happy when it’s over, but the momentum is great right now, and I know I’ll keep going.

NaNoWriMo Day 22

Today’s word count is 2,638.

It’s Sunday, and I woke up this morning feeling rested and relaxed. As a result of feeling good, I started day dreaming about the novel. While drinking my coffee, the story around the finale played in my mind like a movie, and I watched how it all ends. I kind of knew how I want wrap up the story, but seeing it was even better.

So instead of continuing with Chapter Six where I had left off yesterday, I jumped ahead to the third act and wrote down what I saw in my mind. I don’t know exactly what chapter it’s going to be in, but I know it’s in the last part of the third act. I find it easier now to stir the story toward the end since I saw it so vividly and wish I had more days like this.

NaNoWriMo Day 19

The day is almost over, and I just managed to write the daily words for my novel. Getting up this morning was extremely difficult for some reason, which cut in to my writing time in a big way. I love to write in the morning because I’m fresh and rested and come up with great ideas, but not this morning. So, I had to do it tonight, but tonight I was taking an online class, and I had to bake a bread for a potluck lunch tomorrow at work. Good thing I can sit back while the bread is baking and do other stuff.

Now I have a few minutes to spare before it’s bed time. I guess I’ll send the dog out and watch the bread cool down, and then I’ll call it a day. Getting my butt out of bed a bit earlier tomorrow morning will be top priority.

Oh, and the word count for today is 1,867.

NaNoWriMo Day 18

Wow. Only 12 more days to go. Word count for today is 1,805.

Even though the story is going well, and I’ve written over 36K words since the start, I doubt I’ll have it done by the end of November. It looks like I have to keep going at this pace to finish the first draft by the end of the year as I have promised myself. Well, I have four days off around Thanksgiving and the whole week of Christmas. If I’m not too stuffed and sleepy from all the good food, I might be able to write some extra words during that time. But finish, I must.

NaNoWriMo Days 16 and 17

Word counts for the days are 2,227 and 1,913.

My internet is working only sporadically. I barely managed to update the NaNoWriMo website.  It seems to be doing okay for the moment though. So, I’ll write something quickly before I’m disconnected again.

Yesterday, I started on Chapter 4, beginning of the subplot, because I had skipped that in favor of continuing with the main plot. Some of the characters from Sophie and the Magic Flower are driving the secondary story lines, and it felt like meeting old friends again.

The story is moving along the way I hoped, even better at times, because some new ideas popped into my head that I hadn’t thought of when I planned it out. I guess that comes from diving in and immersing myself a lot and often, like right now during NaNoWriMo, rather than having disconnected writing periods with a lot of down time in-between. Love it.
